Power couple to rule Punjab

Vini Mahajan, appointed Chief Secretary of Punjab is a 1987 batch Punjab cadre IAS officer and wife of Punjab Police Chief Dinkar Gupta who is also a 1987-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. This is perhaps the first time any power couple serves simultaneously as the chief secretary and the DGP of a state. Slated to retire in October 2024, Vini who supersedes four IAS officers will also be the first-ever woman Chief Secretary of Punjab.
