Chief Secretary TamilNadu Mrs. Girija Vaidyanathan IAS (TN : 1981) will be retiring on July 1, 2019. The race for the next Chief Secretary has already started. There are about a dozen officers from 1984, 1985 & 1986 batches who are already in various posts in the grade of Chief Secretary. They include Dr Mardi .Rajagopal Secretary to Governor, K.Shanmugam Finance Secretary for the last 12 years, Dr.Niranjan Mardi Home Secretary and Hans Raj Varma Rural Development Secretary. But according to grape wine the most likely choice is Dr.T.V.Somanathan who belongs to 1987 batch who was Joint Secretary to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Modi came all the way from Delhi to Chennai to attend Somanathan's daughter's wedding in Chennai in November 2017. If appointed Somanathan will supersede 11 officers. In case DMK comes to power the scenario will totally change.
