Row over lateral entries

Certain government and bureaucratic segments recently got upset after the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) advertised for lateral recruitment for multiple senior roles in a Central Ministry. Two days later, the advertisement was withdrawn. This episode bore the attention of many and talks about the pros and cons of lateral entries became a huge topic of discussion.

Whispers In The Corridors spoke to some stalwarts – Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, a lateral entry himself, and Dr Shashi Tharoor, a parliamentarian on the issue. However, some shied away from speaking on the subject.
