Six names were put before the panel

Six names were put up before the PM led high power panel for the selection of two new Election Commissioners. The six names shortlisted were those of Utpal Kumar Singh, Gyanesh Kumar, Indevar Pandey, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu (all former bureaucrats) and Sudhir Kumar Gangadhar Rahate and Pradip Kumar Tripathi. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, who was a member of the panel, said that he was  given  212 names, but 10 minutes before the appointment they again gave me just six names. He had given a dissent note, questioning the procedure of selection.
