SP Dr. Pritpal Kaur Launches Trio of Initiatives for Youth Empowerment, Civic Safety & Mental Wellness in Phek,Nagaland

In a significant push for youth empowerment and community well-being, IPS Dr. Pritpal Kaur Superintendent of Police,Phek district has launched three impactful initiatives-

Project Maveno: The Warrior, Project Rakshak 2, and Project Ummeed: The Hope.

Project Maveno: The Warrior

Launched on July 18 at Phek Government College, Project Maveno aims T to build a generation of responsible and resilient young individuals equipped to tackle the rising challenges of sexual/child abuse, drugs abuse, domestic violence, cyber crimes and other social evils in the district.

The opening day saw an enthusiastic participation of 60 students and was graced with inspiring speeches .“Maveno,” meaning “The Warrior” in Chakesang, reflects the mission of creating responsible, alert citizens.

Under Project Maveno, students undergo sessions in five key areas:

1. Basic Self-Defence Training(taekwondo,karate,UAC)

2. Volunteerism Against Drug and Intoxicant Abuse

3. Adolescence Education – focusing on protection from sexual and physical abuse, cyber crimes, and emergency responses.

4. Awareness on Basic Laws, Rights, and Duties

5. First Aid Training

These morning sessions (7:30–9:00 AM), jointly conducted by Phek Police and 39 Assam Rifles, will run for two weeks per institution and later extend to government schools. Additionally all participants took a solemn oath to uphold the values taught during the training, and to use the knowledge only for good - to protect the vulnerable, assist in emergencies, and lead by example and never to misuse the same.

Project Maveno reflects a shared hope: to see Phek rise with a generation that stands strong, united, and alert - true warriors of positive change.

Project Rakshak 2

Focused on civic safety, Project Rakshak 2 includes:

• CCTV installation across Phek town
• 60 road dividers at key junctions
• Regular traffic rule awareness drives
• Coordination with the District Administration, Transport Department, and NGOs

The next phase will extend safety measures to Phutsero.

Project Ummeed: The Hope

On July 26, Dr. Pritpal Kaur,IPS, Superintendent of Police, Phek launched Project UMMEED:The HOPE, a dedicated initiative aimed at promoting mental wellness and suicide prevention.

The project carries a powerful motto“Say No to Suicide, Yes to Life” and focuses on key issues such as mental health, depression, and emotional crisis support.

Dr. Pritpal Kaur, in her address, emphasized the urgency of addressing mental health concerns, revealing that Phek district has witnessed a number of suicide cases over the past few years.

Under this initiative,a District Distress Response Team (DRT)has been formed and now operates round the clock, with four helpline numbers:
