Southern Railway, General Manager, John Thomas has inaugurated the e-office system at 5 establishments of Southern Railway (Chennai,Madurai, Salem, Palakkad, Thiruvannthapuram) implemented by RailTel. With this, all establishments of SR (the Zonal HQ and all 5 Division offices) are now adopting paperless work culture by replacing manual fileswith NIC e-office suite, implemented by RailTel. RailTel has created 7882 users in these6establishments (Zonal HQ+5 Divisions) of SR and trained executives to handle the platform. RailTel signed the MoU for the Phase 1 with Indian Railways in March 2019 with a mandate to complete the work by March 2020. But RailTel completed the work ahead of time and completed the work at Southern Railway zonal Head Quarter and TiruchirapalliDivision within 4 months of signing the MoU. The work at Madurai, Salem, Palakkad, Thiruvannthapuramdivisions were executed under the phase 2 of e-office execution and completed within 2 months of signing the MoU. Southern Railway is the fourthRailway zone (after SCR, SWR and WR) where e-office have been implemented in the zonal HQ and all Divisions. NIC e-Office is a cloud enabled software developed by National Informatics center (NIC) that is being deployed/hosted from RailTel Tier III UPTIME USA certified data centres at Secunderabad and Gurgaon.It is based on Central Secretariat Manual of e-Office Procedure (CSMeOP). Implementation of NIC e office aims to usher in paperless, more efficient, effective and transparent inter-government and intra-government transactions and processes.
