MEN OF BRICS: Officers who shaped Summit success

Indian bureaucrats and diplomats played a central role in the success of the 18th Annual BRICS Summit in India by coordinating negotiations, building consensus among 11 diverse member states overcoming deep geopolitical divides in the expanded bloc and managing year‑long diplomatic preparations.

The presence of two senior IAS officials – former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr. P.K. Mishra drew the attention of the entire bureaucracy. 

Also, young Indian diplomats worked to support the success of BRICS 2026.

Sudhakar Dalela

The credit of summit success goes to Dalela, Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs, who happens to be the India’s BRICS Sherpa.

Shambhu L. Hakki

He is the Joint Secretary (Multilateral Economic Relations & G20) and was the country’s BRICS Sous-Sherpa.

Siddharth Babu

A 2017-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer he shared frame with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kshitij Tyagi

A 2012-batch IFS officer, he is known for his sharp UN responses.

Ihjas Aslam C. Sheikh

He cleared the Civil Services Examination in 2017 and was allotted 2018-batch. He underwent foreign-language training in Arabic, with Egypt as his allocated region. 

Deepanshu Khurana

A 2018-batch IFS officer, he is currently serving as an Under Secretary. He cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2017.

Megha Sunny

She is playing an important role in managing India’s global communication. She has been associated with External Publicity & Public Diplomacy Division of MEA

Vasudev Ravi

He is at the centre of MEA’s press and PR operation. He is a 2013-batch Indian Foreign Service officer.

Dhruv Mishra

A 2018-batch IFS officer his diplomatic career included assignments within the MEA as well as overseas service

Manoj Madhav Sreekumaran Nair

He is a 2020-batch IFS officer who is posted as the under secretary (XPD), MEA.

Abu Mathen George

George is a veteran diplomat with a wide international experience. He is a 2009-batch IFS officer.

Asad Zuberi

He is an IFS officer of 2022 batch and was posted at the Indian Embassy in Cairo, Egypt.

Vikram Grewal

A 2019-batch IFS officer, he has developed a reputation as an author and blogger.

Angad Singh Brar

During the BRICS Summit, he was seen negotiating with the representatives of various nations

Angad is currently working as a Consultant with the Multilateral Economic Relations Division.
