Ticklish to select new DGP in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, where assembly elections are due early next year, is a ticklish job to appoint a new DGP. H C Awasthi, the present DGP, is retiring this month. According to sources the state government is likely to pick IPS officers from 1986,1987 or 1988 batches. Nasir Kamal is the only 1986 batch IPS officer, who will be the senior most IPS officer after the retirement of Awasthi. He is on Central deputation.  Mukul Goel, Dr R P Singh, Biswajit Mahapatra and Gopal Lal Meena are IPS officers of 1987 batch while 8 working IPS officers belong to 1988 batch.
