The whispers bandied around in the corridors about appointment of an Additional Secretary level officer to the post of CMD, Coal India Limited one after another came to an end after the Government of India announced the name of a non-IAS officer, Anil Kumar Jha, CMD, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited for the same. Prior to this appointment, a 1986 batch IAS officer S Narsing Rao of Andhra Pradesh cadre decorated the post from April 24, 2012 to May 2014 while Sutirtha Bhattacharya was appointed to the post in 2015. Bhattacharya, who belongs to 1985 batch IAS officer of Telangana cadre, served from January 5, 2015 to August 31, 2017.
