UK’s Ambassador to India to get big promotion

UK Government has merged its Foreign Ministry with the Department of International Development to create a huge combined Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Sir Philip Barton, UK’s Ambassador to India will take over as the Secretary of the new entity next month. Sir Philip has not held any important posts in the UK's diplomatic service like Ambassadorship to USA, UN, EU etc. except his current assignment.
