The Central Government reportedly decided not to go ahead with appointing Mohammed Syed Akbaruddin, Permanent Representative in the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, as Ambassador to US as it would have resulted in India’s two key vacancies emerging in the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York next month. Tanmaya Lal presently Deputy Permanent Representative in the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York, had already been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Mauritius.  Harsh Vardhan Shringla who has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the United States, it was learnt was being considered as the next Foreign Secretary till Government changed its plan.
