Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), a Subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL) achieved rare feat of creating new record in Coal Production, Despatch and Overburden (OB) removal during the just concluded 2017-18 fiscal. Company also established new milestones for its future growth and in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The company surpassed its own record of highest ever Coal Production of 45.7 Million Tonne (MT) achieved during the year 2009-10 by producing 46.22 MT of coal during 2017-18. WCL also registered a growth in Coal Production over last year. This is the fourth consecutive year wherein WCL has registered growth in Coal Production after a continuous negative growth for 5 years from 2009-10 to 2013-14. Growth in production in consecutive years was possible because of opening of 19 projects during last 3 years which added to more than 27 MT of Coal Production during 2017-18. In order to have enhancement in production for future sustainability, WCL has taken steps to enhance the existing mine capacity, which will be adding about 6.5 MT during 2018-19. Similarly, WCL also achieved a new record in Despatch of coal during the year 2017-18 by despatching 48.76 MT against the highest ever of 45.509 MT achieved during the year 2009-10. WCL also created a record by achieving growth of 23.5% in coal off-take during 2017-18 which is the highest among all the subsidiaries of CIL. During the year, the Company despatched 9204 rakes of coal which is 28.84% higher over last year. Single day highest ever coal production of 3.41 Lakh tonnes and highest ever despatch of 1.82 Lakh Tonnes was attained on 31st March 2018. With enough coal stock in the mines during the year 2017-18, WCL could successfully despatch coal to its consumers as per their demand. Company is having a stock of 11.60 MT as on 1st April 2018, which will again help in meeting the demands of its consumers. WCL surpassed its CAPEX target of Rs.1050 Crores during 2017-18 which will help Company in its future growth. WCL has achieved record 185.29 Million cu. M. of OB removal during the year 2017-18, thereby registering a growth of about 12% over last year. WCL will be heading for a remarkable feat during the year 2018-19 by crossing 50 MT Coal Production level to achieve a target of 52.5 MT. The company will also gear up to achieve the coal despatch target of 58.7 MT during 2018-19.
