Will CM DKS be able to contain simmering dissent amidst cabinet expansion?
The Karnataka Congress is currently navigating severe internal friction following Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar’s recent cabinet expansion, which triggered widespread dissatisfaction across key regional factions. While top leadership managed to temporarily quiet early dissent from MLAs Yashvanthrayagouda Patil and Belur Gopalkrishna, several senior lawmakers remain steadfast in their demands. Most notably, senior legislator MLA M. Krishnappa and other prominent leaders continue to aggressively press for ministerial berths, significantly escalating internal political turmoil within the ruling party.
Sensing that the ongoing friction risks spiraling out of control and weakening government cohesion, the Congress high command intervened swiftly by dispatching AICC General Secretary in-charge Randeep Surjewala to Bengaluru on Wednesday. His primary mandate is to engage aggrieved lawmakers directly, organize urgent crisis management talks, address key political grievances, and restore party unity.
