Will the Opposition legally challenge LS's decision on Shiv Sena merger & TMC dissidents?

In a significant political development, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has approved the merger of six rebel MPs from the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) into the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, increasing the latter's strength to 13. Simultaneously, the Speaker granted separate seating in the House to 20 dissident Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs who have parted ways with their parent party.

This decision has immediate consequences for the floor dynamics of the 18th Lok Sabha, establishing the Shinde Sena as the second-largest constituent of the NDA. However, the move has sparked intense backlash with the Uddhav Thackeray faction arguing that the merger violates the Tenth Schedule.

Given these concerns, opposition lawyers are reportedly preparing to challenge the Speaker’s decision in the Supreme Court.
