GMDC and GUVNL sign MoU towards energy security of Gujarat

Under the agreement signed in presence of Minister for Energy, Sh Kanubhai Desai both utilities will collaborate to develop 5650 MW of thermal powered stations in Gujarat & Odisha.

Out of this, 4400 MW will be fuelled by GMDC’s acquisition of Coal Blocks in Odisha last year. The coal projects are in an advanced stage of development, with ground breaking planned in FY 25-26.

In Gujarat, GMDC is opening new Lignite projects which will fuel 1250 MW thermal capacity.

Under the agreement, state power utility GUVNL shall look for partners under Section 62 and/or Section 63 of Electricity Act. This will ensures grid stability and replacement of retiring thermal capacity in the state.
