POWERGRID Acquires STL & BMTL (UPDATED)

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) – a Maharatna CPSU under Ministry of Power has acquired two Project Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) viz. Sirohi Transmission Limited and Beawar-Mandsaur Transmission Limited on 22nd August 2024  for the Transmission System Projects for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Phase IV (Part 2: 5.5 GW) (Jaisalmer/ Barmer Complex): Part B and Part D respectively from the Bid Process Coordinator PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL) after competing with various private sector players and emerging as successful bidder in Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process.

Sirohi Transmission Limited shall implement a Transmission System comprising establishment of new 765/400 kV sub-station near Sirohi in Rajasthan, 765kV & 400kV D/C Transmission Lines and associated bays extension works at existing substation in the state of Rajasthan. The transmission system is an Inter State Transmission System Project and is to be commissioned in 24 months.

Beawar-Mandsaur Transmission Limited shall implement a Transmission System comprising establishment of 765kV D/C Transmission Line and associated bays extension works at existing sub-station in the state of Rajasthan & Madhya Pradesh. The transmission system is an Inter State Transmission System Project and is to be commissioned in 24 months.

Both the above projects are a part of the high-capacity transmission corridor that shall facilitate evacuation of 5.5 GW renewable energy from Jaisalmer/Barmer Complex (Fatehgarh-IV: 4 GW, Barmer-I: 1.5 GW) towards the load centers.

POWERGRID, through its various Projects SPVs which have been acquired through tariff bidding route, is implementing various Transmission System Projects being constructed on build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis. These Projects will augment the Indian transmission infrastructure to evacuate Green Energy to the National Grid thereby reducing dependency on fossil fuels, in line with Government of India’s vision of achieving 500 GW renewable energy target by year 2030.

As on 31st July 2024, POWERGRID has commissioned and is operating 278 Sub-stations and more than 1,77,790 ckm transmission lines and 532,446 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation and digital solutions, POWERGRID has been able to maintain average transmission system availability more than 99.8%.
