After extension of Director, Space Application Centre, speculations are rife

After the service extension of the Director, Space Application Centre Nilesh M Desai, an eminent scientist, speculations are rife that he may be entrusted  with the responsibility of Chairman, ISRO. He joined the current position on January 1, 2021 and on April 1, he was given an extension of one year. Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad, is a lead centre of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), for design and development of space-borne instruments and associated applications. A highly accomplished Engineer, Desai has successfully led the design and development of ISRO's airborne & Spaceborne Microwave Remote Sensing Payloads. However, sources opined that discussion in this regard is on and no final decision has been taken. In fact, last year was a noteworthy year for ISRO since this space organisation launched many successful missions, including the Chandrayaan-3 lunar Mission. Additionally, ISRO also made history with its groundbreaking achievement of landing the Aditya L-1 Mission on the Sun. The current Chairman of ISRO, S Somanath is known for playing a key role in supervising and guiding the organisation's missions and operations successfully. He joined the organisation on January 15, 2022. The sources added that there is possibility that he may get an extension in view of him delivering excellent results.
