IAS Sonia Meena’s dream to revive the silk hub of Madhya Pradesh

IAS officer Sonia Meena, belongs to 2013 batch of the Madhya Pradesh cadre and is currently posted as Collector of Narmadapuram district, MP. Known for  her courage and fearless administration. She has received commendation letters from the Honourable Chief Minister, the Election Commission of India, and CEO, MP.

Sonia strives to bring back the lost glory of Narmadapuram by focusing on its once thriving sericulture sector "Narmadapuram was once known as a silk hub, producing all four types of silk— Tussar, Mulberry, Eri, Muga all of them were cultivated here," she says.

A significant achievement for this is she said "Farm to Fabric" project, aimed at reviving the district's sericulture sector.

In her quest for the overall development of the district, Sonia has also focused on improving the lives of jail inmates. She has initiated a program to provide them with skill training and link them to self-employment schemes. “I am working on training jail inmates and linking them to self-employment schemes once they are released”

Narmadapuram has three jails in the district with around 1,000 inmates, of whom approximately 500 are long-term prisoners. "So far, we’ve trained about 200 inmates in various trades such as poultry, dairy, paperwork, beauty parlour services etc. Many have been linked to self-employment schemes, and we’ve also formed two self-help groups within the jails to assist them further," Sonia adds.
