IAS officer Ajeet Vasant,from the 2013 batch of the Chhattisgarh cadre is currently posted as the Collector of Korba,Chhattisgarh. His vision for the district focuses on improving health and education making Korba the only district in Chhattisgarh to offer breakfast to children in government schools.

Acknowledging breakfast as the most important meal of the day, Vasant introduced this initiative in addition to the existing midday meal program. “When children come to school,around 9:30 in the morning we provide them with breakfast daily,” he explained.

Under his leadership, more than 1,00,000 children in over 3000 schools are served breakfast every day. The funding for this initiative is sourced from the District Mineral Fund.

Additionally, gas cylinder with refilling facilities have been provided to replace the traditional chulhas used for cooking the midday meal and breakfast scheme. “In Korba, we’ve ensured the use of gas cylinders,” Vasant explained. “We’ve also covered the cost of refilling to ease the financial burden on schools.”
