Will Balendra Shah become next PM/ Interim PM of Nepal?

Nepal’s political spotlight has shifted to Kathmandu’s young mayor, Balendra Shah, after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned in the wake of the deadly student-led ‘GenZ protests’.

Known widely as Balen, the 35-year-old rapper-turned-politician, has emerged as a grassroots favourite and online campaigns are portraying him as Himalayan nation’s next potential leader. Shah has served as Kathmandu’s 15th mayor since May 2022, creating history as the first independent candidate—without party backing—to win the post.

An engineer by training, Shah earned his civil engineering degree in Nepal before moving to India for a master’s in structural engineering at Visvesvaraya Technological University in Karnataka. Long before politics, he made a name in Nepal’s underground hip-hop circuit, where his music railed against corruption, injustice, and inequality—themes that continue to define his political stance today.

Sources suggest that Nepal Army forced KP Oli to resign

Nepal’s political crisis has entered a new phase with sources indicating that the Nepal Army intervened directly in the standoff. According to insiders, senior military leadership advised former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to step down, offering him a safe and face-saving exit amid mounting protests across the country.

The Army is now said to have formally assumed charge of the political transition process, positioning itself as the guarantor of stability after weeks of unrest. While Oli’s resignation marks the end of a turbulent chapter, the military’s takeover signals the beginning of an uncertain phase in Nepal’s democratic journey, as calls grow both for political reform and for assurances that civilian governance will be restored.

Will India send a team for restoration of order in Nepal?

The rise in chaos in Nepal has created conditions for the ouster of the current government.
