High Courts facing a shortage of 357 judges

As many as 347 posts of Judges out of total sanctioned strength of 1,114 Judges have been lying vacant in various High Courts for a long time.  A total of 76 posts against a total sanctioned 180 are vacant in Allahabad High Court while Bombay High Court has 28 vacancies against sanctioned strength of 94 Judges and the Calcutta High Court is struggling with 28 vacancies out of its total of 72 posts. Similarly, the Punjab and Haryana High Court is short by 30 judges from its sanctioned strength of 85, while the Gujarat High Court has 23 vacancies against its sanctioned strength of 52. Besides, the Delhi High Court has 21 vacant posts out of its sanctioned strength of 60.
