IPS Nagendra Singh's Fight Against Naxalism in Balaghat (MP)

IPS Nagendra Singh belongs to the 2014 Batch Madhya Pradesh cadre and is currently posted as Superintendent of Police, Balaghat (MP), one of India’s most Naxal-affected districts. To address the challenges, he has launched a community policing program called Jan Maitri.

“We have a community policing program for Naxal-affected areas called Jan Maitri ” Singh explained. His vision is to ensure the safety and security of all citizens with a particular focus on the district’s tribal population.

As part of this initiative, children from Naxal-affected villages are identified and taught by police officers and special forces. “Some of these villages are the most Naxal-affected areas of the district,” he noted. In addition to education, the program organizes medical camps and helps facilitate documentation for government IDs, such as Aadhaar cards. “We facilitate documentation for government IDs and other beneficiary services to ensure people receive the benefits they are entitled to,” he added.
Beyond this “Routine Naxal operations and other challenges faced by the district, as one of the most affected in the country, are being actively managed,” he said. His efforts are aimed at strengthening public-police cooperation and bridge the gap between the administration and the people.
